Example Of A Bad eBay Photo.

Terry,

One of things that I have learned from reading your materials is the importance of pictures. I could not resist sending this picture to you. It probably qualifies as one of the best (lol) pictures of the century.

Do You Need Liability Insurance Covering The Items You Sell On Ebay?

Filed under:

Hi Terry,

I have been getting your newsletter for some time now. I find the information very informative.

I see that you sell used toys. Do you carry liability insurance in case a child gets hurt on a toy you sell to their parents?

It is amazing to me that most ebay sellers do not know what liability insurance is. They think that I was referring to shipping insurance.

There was a workshop done on eBay awhile ago. It was done by a lawyer and he suggested incorporating. I really don’t want to do that right now….I am not a big enough seller to cover the costs of being a corporation. He also suggested liability insurance. I am having trouble finding an insurance company that will cover an eBay seller. I have a business rider on my homeowners insurance policy. It covers my inventory and has liability for selling clothing. I wanted to add toys but my agent does not think they will cover me. My liability amount is only $300,000. The lawyer doing the workshop suggested a $1,000,000. I have been on the discussion boards on eBay but no one has it or does not know what it is.

Thanks so much,

Jennifer

Can You Put An Opt In Form For An Ezine In An Auction?

Filed under:

Have you written any updates to your ebook Prospecting on eBay? The reason I ask is because something I read in one of your sales letters or articles made it seem like you wrote it awhile back.

Also instead of sending visitors to the about me page can you just have an optin box where they can opt in for additional information or a free report?

Basically, what I would like to do is sell an ebook or report where it can be delivered digitally and acquire leads of individuals who are looking for a legitimate work from home opportunity.

I have never sold anything on ebay so I’m just wondering if something like this is possible these days without too much hassle? And what kind of volume you think I could produce if what I offer is good quality with respectable copywriting.

By the way, great articles packed with lots of useful information.

Thanks a lot and thanks for your time.

Respectfully,

James Nestor

Adding Photos To Your eBay Auctions

Filed under:

I don’t know if you answer your emails but I have a question.
I ordered the Auction Revolution and was excited about the host your own photo thing.

I went surfing and found several sites that host your imaged for free. I’ve tried several and I can get 1 photo to go when setting up my page. That’s all. Can you tell me how to get the rest of them on the page?

Thanks
Dorothy

Keeping Track Of Yard Sale Purchases For Tax Reasons

Filed under:

Hi Terry,

My question is mundane & boring - sorry! BUT it’s an important detail.

My wife & I get a lot of the goods we sell on eBay from Garage / Yard / Estate / Tag Sales. For the tax man the cost of purchase is a legit deduction, but you need to have proof of purchase. Sometimes an estate sale is run by an auction company, and will provide receipts, but most are “home” run and do not. If you ask for a receipt, or pull out your own book an ask for a signature, you can get a really cool reception. Some won’t do it at all.

Any suggestions? Is there a better way to do it that still satisfies the IRS?

Phil

How Do We Find Out The Best Words To Use In Our eBay Titles?

You’ve said before that most people only search eBay titles making it important to have the best words in your title. Do you have suggestions on good ways to learn what search words people are using?

Can You Recommend A Good Free Photo Editing Program?

Filed under:

In one of your recent newsletters you recommended a free and much easier to use photo imaging editor. I have a Canon Digital Camera and it came with a nice editor, but it is more difficult to use. What was the program you recommended?

Thanks,

How Can I Compete With Low Priced eBay Sellers?

I have built up an eBay business over the last year selling baby items. I also sell baby jewelry and a particular brand of diamond baby jewelry. However there is one seller who lists loads of the same jewelry very cheaply - I can’t imagine she is making any money as she lists loads at a time very cheaply and I know the wholesale cost.
Anyway because she is so cheap buyers go to her

Any suggestions as to what I can do to poach these buyers

Regards,
Karen

PS. I am really enjoying the eBay Mastermind series which I listen to in the car on my way to work. Although I am in England many of the principles you teach can equally apply here and I have learnt a lot from you.

Can I Add Buyers To A Newsletter List?

Filed under:

eBay does not allow me to add in email addresses of our buyers from the past. When we used Marketworks, we had an Opt-in section available during buyer checkout, thereby getting about 500 subscribers. eBay store reps tell me the buyers have to join the newsletter request for me to send them something.

I have no idea how to set up or use an autoresponder. My research has pointed out we need to have one. Right now my email address mentioned above are stored on my HD in Excel format, which I know nothing about either.

So, here we set, with all these old email addresses from buyers of our stuff and I can do nothing with them.

Best regards,
Jim Halloran

Hosting eBay Images on Yahoo

Filed under:

I have been trying to work on hosting my own pictures. I am not having success. I have unlimited storage at Yahoo and I have loaded my pictures as I usually do. However I cannot seem to find a way to get them onto eBay. I cannot find the URL to use. Maybe I am doing it wrong. Do I need to load these onto Yahoo differently than I do my normal pictures? Or maybe Yahoo does not allow this? Any help you can give me is appreciated. I am really excited to try this, but am getting discouraged.

Thanks,

Shari Salzman

Dealing With Buy It Now Harassment

Filed under:

I’ve got a scenario I want to throw at you……This concerns eBay’s “Buy It Now” feature. An eBay seller lists 6 pages of auctions. Some other Ebay member, for whatever reason, decides to use the Buy It Now option on well over 60 auctions with no intention of paying.

Leaving the seller stuck with listing fees on auctions that don’t result in sales. EBay and PayPal both refuse to help but eBay still wants their fees paid.

Any suggestions?

An eBay Selling Checklist?

Filed under:

I have never sold on eBay but I am a registered user. I need help in simply getting started - - - the first “baby” steps.

I’ve read and read ebooks and articles over and over. But I have yet to see (or maybe I missed it) the exact steps you go through to place your first item up for bid.

I don’t want to do anything wrong just because it’s my first time. I want to be able to at least start out right but I do know I will make mistakes as I learn.

How do you go from reading the “how to start” to actually starting? Something like a very simple check list?

Sincerely,
Corinne Larimore

Does eBay Have Slow Seasons?

Filed under:

Is there a better time of the year to list items. Is summer slower that, say, the fall winter or spring? Are there any statistics on this? I really don’t want to waste my listing fee money if no one is going to bid.

Thanks for all your good advice in the book and through email,

Bob

Taking PayPal, But Not Credit Cards

Ebay has started forcing sellers that accept Paypal to accept credit card payments even if they only want to accept payment through bank-to-bank instant transfer.

I’m not a business. I just use Ebay to get rid of stuff around the house. I cannot afford to pay the Paypal charges for accepting credit card purchase. Ebay will cancel your listing if you state “you only accept bank-to-bank instant transfer” but will accept “prefers bank-to-bank instant transfer”. Is there a way around this issue? It’s come to the point that it’s not worth it for me to list items on Ebay.

eBay Seller Doesn’t Deliver Purchase

Filed under:

I had my 1st dud deal on ebay this week. Bought an item, paid via direct deposit, not received and now the seller is no longer a registered user. Ebay gave me a disconnected mobile phone number for them. Any suggestions?

Thank you so very much I am sure you must get bombarded with questions. I greatly appreciate your time.

Kindest regards,
Lesley
